Bea Krenn graduated in Chemistry, Vrije Uni­versiteit, Amsterdam (1984). She conducted PhD research at the Biochemistry Department, Univer­sity of Amsterdam, specializing in Protein-chemistry and Enzymology and defended her PhD thesis "Molecular aspects of Bromoperoxidases from various species " in 1989. In 1988 she initiated a collaboration between the UvA Chemistry Department and a Japanese Research Group. The following 7 years after this Biotechnology project at Kyoto University, Japan, she worked as a researcher on membrane proteins (Vrije Uni­versiteit Amsterdam), 3 years within the context of a European Research Network. Bea also qualified and worked as an ICT specialist/project manager at IBM Netherlands, but subsequently returned as a biochemist to the Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences (UvA). From 2003 to 2007 Bea worked as an EU grants adviser at the Netherlands Cancer Institute, where she also managed an EU FP6 project as an adjunct coordinator. Since September 2007 Bea has been working at the Technology Transfer Office of the University of Amsterdam as senior advisor EU research funding and she became Head of the Research Funding team a.i.  in October 2012. She is also Manager Programme Development and Valorization at the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR) for 2 days a week.
