What is a 3MT competition?

Developed by The University of Queensland, the Three Minute Thesis competition or 3MT, is an annual competition held at over 900 universities across more than 85 countries worldwide.

Participants are challenged to present their PhD research in just three minutes to a non-specialist audience. The 3MT is also a video competition: presentations are recorded on video and can be shared with others, even after the competition.

See this link as an example of a PHD pitch video. NB. this video is not yet completely according to the UvA 3MT video criteria, but very close.

Why should I take part in the UvA 3MT Competition?

  • Prize funds worth of 1000 EUR and 500 EUR for the UvA top 3 PhD videos;

Based on these videos, each Faculty jury selects 3 finalists. These finalists continue to the UvA finals. The UvA Grand Jury selects a winner and 2 runners-up (second/third place).
